What are these wines about?I make all kinds of wines, and I will not be tied down to a certain style or category. I make wines people like, not wines I want people to like. The range is eclectic just like the winemaker. Currently there are several ranges, that were born from different parents, and with different goals in mind. I make the Louis range of wines, Black Forest, Buckleberry and Collaboration together with Chefs Craig Cormack and Bertus Basson, as well as wines for private clients.
About LouisI was born in Paarl, and having been surrounded by vineyards making winemaking a career seemed quite obvious. I love the technical side, but think of myself as an artist as well, so having both disciplines in the same profession suited me very well. I studied winemaking at the University of Stellenbosch, and graduated in 1992. I then worked harvests overseas in France and America, and also worked at Vergelegen, Neil Ellis, Warwick and Hidden Valley before I went on my own. I became a member of the Cape Winemakers Guild in 2006, and I am very honoured to be amongst this small group of wonderful winemakers.
